Always Be Seen – Why EquiLight Is the Smarter Choice for Summer Riding

It’s Time to Rethink Hi-Vis
We all love the long summer days — sunny hacks, pub stops, and exploring the countryside with our horses. But just because it’s bright out doesn’t mean we can ditch our hi-vis.
In fact, this is the time of year when visibility is more important than ever. Dappled lanes, low sun in the evenings, shaded bridleways — they all make it harder for drivers to spot us.
That’s exactly why we created EquiLight.
Let’s be honest — for years, hi-vis has been something we’ve thrown on as an afterthought. Oversized vests, flappy fabrics, no pockets… just not made with real riders in mind.
At EquiLight, we’ve set out to change that.
Our LED-enhanced, rechargeable gear isn’t just about visibility. It’s about comfort, practicality, and confidence in the saddle — whether you’re heading out solo or with a group, on the roads or across fields.
LED Rechargeable Hi-Vis – What’s the Big Deal?
Most hi-vis relies on light bouncing off it. Great when it works — not so great when you’re in the shade, fog, or early morning light.
Our gear emits its own light.
That means you stay visible, even when conditions aren’t ideal. Whether it's our Safety Clip Light LEDs or fully integrated vests and rugs, you're giving drivers a clear, unmistakable signal from a distance.
We like to say: you’re not just reflective. You’re luminous.
Meet Our Rider-Favourite: The Pro Rider Vest
This one’s a game-changer.
We designed our Pro Rider Vest specifically with horse riders in mind. It's made to fit over body protectors and air vests without riding up, flapping around or looking like you borrowed it from a road crew.
Some of the details riders love:
-
Two deep, zipped phone pockets – fits even the big ones!
-
Streamlined, fitted shape – no more sizing up just to make it work
-
Discreet LED panel – bright, rechargeable, and weatherproof
It’s the kind of hi-vis you’ll actually want to wear — and that’s saying something.
Not Ready to Fully Commit? Start with a Clip Light
If you're just starting your LED journey, our Clip-On Lights are ideal.
They’re small, lightweight, and seriously bright. Pop one on your existing tabard, your bridle, your saddlebag — wherever suits.
No fuss. No excuses. Just better visibility without changing your whole setup.
LED Rugs – Let Drivers Know How Wide to Pass
One of the biggest issues we hear from riders is close passes.
Our LED hi-vis rugs give a much clearer profile from the rear and side. They let drivers see not just that there’s a horse ahead — but how far away they should pass.
When paired with things like a reflective martingale, tail guard or rein bands, you’re covered from every angle. It’s all about giving road users the clearest possible picture.
Choosing Colours That Work With Nature
Here’s the thing: bright doesn’t always mean visible.
Summer brings vibrant fields, tall hedgerows and golden crops — and some hi-vis colours just disappear into the background.
A few quick pointers:
-
Avoid yellow during oilseed rape season (you’ll blend right in)
-
Green disappears in hedgerows and grassy lanes
-
Pink and orange stand out brilliantly against most summer landscapes
-
Mixing colours across you and your horse is always a smart move
Not All Hi-Vis Is Equal
Let’s break it down – because no one wants to spend money on something that doesn’t work for them.
We're all for practicality — if it’s not functional, we don’t make it.
Simple Tips for Staying Safe This Summer
-
Wear hi-vis every single time you ride – no matter how short the hack
-
Use gear for both you and your horse
-
Keep your phone charged and zipped away (our vest pockets are perfect for that)
-
Let someone know where you’re heading
-
Don’t assume you’re visible just because it’s sunny
And honestly? It’s just one of those things you’ll never regret wearing — but could absolutely regret not wearing.
And Just So You Know…
If you're ever involved in an incident and you're not wearing hi-vis, it could affect your insurance. Some policies may say you didn’t take reasonable precautions.
Sections 50–51 of the Highway Code also strongly recommend fluorescent and reflective gear for both riders and horses — especially in low light or poor visibility. It’s not just good practice. It’s expected.
Ride Smarter. Ride Safer. Ride EquiLight.
We created EquiLight because we wanted better – for ourselves, our horses, and our fellow riders.
Better visibility. Better design. Better peace of mind.

Because being seen isn’t optional. But looking good while you do it? That’s where we come in.
